The microcluster "Information and Control Technologies applied to the physiopathology and treatment of diabetes", led by the Instituto de Automática e Informática Industrial (ai2) of Universidad Politécnica de Valencia, has been launched under the framework of the Valencia Campus of Excellence VLC/Campus. It gathers together engineers, endocrinologists, neurobiologists and psicobiologists aiming at a better understanding of the pathophysiology of type 2 and type 1 diabetes and its treatment. Technologies like control engineering, systems biology, augmented reality, telemonitoring and robotics will be applied in the context of diabetes. The following research lines will be developed:
1. Study of the diabetes physiopathology: molecular level
2. Study of the diabetes physiopathology: systemic level
3. New therapeutic targets for the treatment of type 2 diabetes
4. Automated insulin infusion in type 1 diabetes: artificial pancreas
5. Remote monitoring and supervision
6. Advanced interfaces and devices
7. Stress and cognitive function in diabetes. Factors of vulnerability and resistance.
8. Neuronal structural plasticity and vulnerability to stress in induced diabetes animal models.
